'American Idol' Castoff Erika Van Pelt 'Went Crazy' With New Look

'It helped me come out of my shell a little bit more,' singer tells MTV News of Tommy Hilfiger-assisted makeover.

"American Idol" contestant Erika Van Pelt may have disagreed with the judges' critiques of her rendition of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind," but with the help of famed designer Tommy Hilfiger, she may have stolen the show when she drastically changed up her hairstyle from mid-length blond to a short black cut. But unfortunately for Van Pelt, it wasn't enough to save her from elimination from the show.

Even though Van Pelt won't be rocking out on the "Idol" stage anymore, she has no regrets about her makeover.

"I love it, and it's funny 'cause everyone was so shocked," Van Pelt told MTV News on Monday. "I've gotten good responses, but they're like, 'Wow you really did that? You'd be bold enough and audacious enough to do that?' But the funny thing is people don't know I do this at home. I've been doing this my entire life."

And it seems that she's not the only one who is enjoying her new look, which she said she was planning for quite some time.

"My friends, my family, my fanbase were really digging it," she said. "It helped me come out of my shell a little bit more. When Tommy Hilfiger came on as an image consultant, we started to talk about it. I had already had it in my mind that I wanted to do something drastic with it. I didn't know what, so when I got the green light, I went crazy."

Van Pelt, who will stay with the shorter hairstyle but might change the color, is now looking forward to hitting the road for the "Idol" tour. But after that, she is ready to branch out on her own.

"After the tour is done, I honestly want to get right to work," she said. "I want to work on my first album, I want to do a ton of writing, I even want to get involved in acting and musical theater. I would love to be involved maybe on Broadway. I'm just a hard worker and I don't care, 12-, 16-hour days, I'll put the work in this. It's what I want to do."

During her time on "Idol," Van Pelt drew comparisons to Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Janis Joplin, but it's British songstress Jessie J who the singer truly admires.

"I've been listening to a lot of Jessie J. She's totally amazing," the singer revealed. "She's got millions of fans and I still think she's underrated — amazing vocals and she's fearless. She doesn't make any excuses for who she is ... she's just totally 100 percent herself."

The two singers have more in common than you might think.

"Actually, for a while I had the shoulder-length dark hair with the straight-across bangs," Van Pelt said. "That was before I started listening to Jessie J, and then I saw her and I was like, 'Whoa!' "

Business Analytics & Enterprise Software ... - Business Marketing Ace

You are here: Home ? Business ? Small Business ? Business Analytics & Enterprise Software Publishing in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld March 25, 2012 | Small Business | 0 Comment

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2012

The Business Analytics and Enterprise Software Publishing industry is expected to continue solid growth due to favorable demand conditions caused by high business profit. In 2012, industry revenue is expected to rise 9.0% to $ 26.1 billion as businesses take advantage of record-high profit, low interest rates and one-time tax incentives to upgrade their information technology (IT) infrastructure. During the five years to 2012, industry revenue rose about 1.8% annually on average, driven by businesses? increasing technological sophistication and eagerness to adopt efficiency-enhancing software. Customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software systems have become basic tools in the management of Fortune 500 companies.

The world?s largest software companies spent the last five years acquiring high-performing enterprise software vendors. As a result, the number of establishments in the Business Analytics and Enterprise Software Publishing industry is expected to contract over the five years to 2012. Software vendors accurately anticipated the growth potential of this industry. Revenue per establishment has increased over the past five years and is expected to continue climbing through 2017. Some examples of the aggressive acquisition spree include Oracle?s purchases of Hyperion Solutions, PeopleSoft and Siebel Systems; IBM?s purchase of Cognos and SPSS; and SAP?s purchase of Business Objects and Crystal Decisions. IBISWorld industry analyst Dale Schmidt says these acquisitions allow large software vendors to pursue a portfolio approach, leveraging existing clients by offering software suites to meet all of their needs.

The competitive characteristics of this industry, and IT in general, tend to favor a higher level of concentration, says Schmidt. The four largest players include International Business Machines Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, SAP AG and Oracle Corporation. Software has significant upfront costs (i.e. research and development) but almost zero marginal costs; once produced, the software is infinitely reproducible. As a result, fewer products being developed means higher profit across the industry. Furthermore, the wide array of products and licensing requirements that currently exist tend to lead consumers toward brands rather than individual products, a trend that favors further consolidation. Concentration within this industry will continue to increase as the largest software vendors acquire small software companies. The industry is just beginning to tap into its growth potential. During the next five years, increasingly powerful predictive analytics tools will unlock business insights, driving revenue up. Predictive analytics tools can automatically forecast trends in business statistics (e.g. per-store revenue by individual store) when combined with existing data mining technologies. Because businesses increasingly use IT infrastructure to record and store business data, the potential for these technologies will only continue to grow. Digital gaming soars nine percent, still knows nothing of rarity value

Image
It's already chewed up some big names on the retail scene, but the game-downloading trend shows no sign of being sated. Fresh figures from market research firm NPD show that American digital game sales (including rentals and DLC) amounted to $2.04 billion in the fourth quarter of 2011, which represents a nine percent year-on-year hike at a time when physical game transactions fell three percent. Things are going the same way across the Atlantic, with the UK, France and Germany adding a further $1.29 billion to the burgeoning click-to-buy market. Industry types will surely welcome the news, since digital titles rake in higher margins (hello, PS Store) and reduce the trade in used discs, but what about those of us who'll one day want to swap our dusty copy of Fight Night Round Four for something more subtle?

Continuing Education is an Option for Busy Professionals

Whether your goal is to change careers, update your existing skills or augment new skills to launch a new career path, continuing education has a course or program that will help you to reach your goals. This learning option often involves enrollment in post-secondary, credit-granting courses by part-time students, and is often offered through a division or school of continuing education of a college. As the term suggests, it is assumed that the student already has an education and is simply continuing it.

At Centennial College in Toronto, Ont. students have a few continuing education options thanks to the institution's School of Continuing Education. These options include: part-time, evening, weekend, online and alternative format courses ? all of which are designed to help students improve their skills, further their education and pursue a variety of interests.

In addition, Centennial College's continuing education options: provide experienced instructors who understand adult learning needs and offer flexible, learner-centered teaching methodologies; provide practical hands-on knowledge to place relevant theory into context and perspective; recognize and respect both the level of maturity and work experience of students; and provide effective instructor to student ratio and an optimal classroom size enabling competent peer interaction. As a result, the school's Continuing Education school sees nearly 22,000 learners each year in 160 programs that feature more than 1,200 courses and a 97 per cent learner satisfaction.

All programs facilitated through the continuing education school have their own prerequisites and it's best to check each individual program's page to ensure that students have the necessary requirements to apply.

It should also be noted that within certain programs there might be qualification requirements and costs for external accreditations, designations, certifications or recognitions. These are set by the granting bodies and not by Centennial College. In order to qualify for any of those external accreditations, designations, certification or recognition, students and graduates will need to follow the processes and meet the applicable requirements listed on the websites and materials of those external bodies. Among the continuing education areas of study are: Addiction Studies, Business, Computers and Information Technology, Early Childhood Education, Engineering Technology, Food Service Worker, Media and Design, Part-time Health Studies, Retirement Communities Management/Long Term Care Management, Transportation, and more.

Two other Continuing Education School options are Distance Learning and Print Based Courses. First, Distance Learning programs and courses are offered in an online learning format that is instructor-led but allows students to complete course material and assignments in their own time and space, with 24- hour access to the online classroom. Meanwhile, correspondence or print based courses (PB) are also available offering students the ability to work at their own pace within typically a six-month time frame. Print-based courses are best suited to students who work independently with minimal supervision. In most cases both delivery methods (online & PB) require that students attend the campus towards the end of their class to write a continuing education final exam.

Skin care treatment for the most common skin conditions

The dirt and dust that is accumulated in the skin must be removed every now and then to make sure that the skin remains healthy. The dirt causes the closing of the pores thereby making it difficult for the skin to breathe. There are various skin cleansers available and they can be useful for cleaning your skin. It is important to cleanse your skin at least twice a day to remove pore blocks.

Most people clean or wash their face at least one time a day. This step is imperative because it removes dirt, dust, grime, grease and extra oil from the skin. Wet the face and then use a good facial cleanser on both the face and the neck. A water-based cleanser is the best for cleaning the face because you can avoid chemicals that may irritate the skin.

Don?t cease studying this article. Skin care can be a advanced subject for some, but it?s truly very simple when you think about it. Even if your interest revolves around a topc as narrow as Revitol hair removal cream or something more general to the health and beauty niche, the following pointers will help you to achieve optimistic skin care results. Think about it. The methods below could change the health of your skin for the remainder of your life.

Drinking water moisturizes your skin from the inside out and clear up your skin. It can give your skin a healthy glow, and is important in helping the body gets rid of toxins. One of the main reasons for tired-looking skin is dehydration, both on the surface and throughout the body. Keep your body well hydrated for your health and your skin.

Choose a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Look for the words ?broad spectrum protection? or UVA protection in addition to the SPF of 15 or greater. Select a sunscreen that says ?nonacnegenic? or ?noncomedogenic? on the label to help keep pores clear.

Soften Dry Skin on Elbows. The skin on the elbow is usually very dry and darker in color than other body parts. Try lemon treatment for dry elbows. Slice the lemon into two halves, rub a bit and stick it on your elbow is dry about 10 minutes. Then wash with water.

The oil in the facial cleanser dissolves the oil on the face; the surfactants dissolve everything else; water washes the face clean. The best facial cleansers also contain natural botanical extracts to soothe, protect, nourish and moisturize the face. There are many good ones out in the marketplace today ? just look for ones labeled for your face and not a body bar.

Sometimes it?s best to keep everything to yourself. No matter how much it hurts you, because you yourself could understand and re-motivate yourself back! sunblock prevents many other skin diseases caused by harmful ultraviolet rays. Age spots are most prominent in areas around your hands. So, remember to apply sunblock regularly in these areas.
