Florence And The Machine Give Festival-Style Show At Radio City

Audience members sat on one another's shoulders festival-style despite the 'snazzy venue.'

NEW YORK — Despite a lack of sleep, which she credited to having a very eventful stay in New York, Florence Welch still tapped into festival-level energy for her sold-out show at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday night.

In the time that's elapsed since the release of her 2009 debut Lungs, the 25-year-old English musician, stylized with her band as Florence and the Machine, has blossomed into an international star and a world-class performer. That much was reflected in her ability to command the audience's attention, keeping them on their feet throughout an hour-long show in a venue that afforded the option of seating.

The show was live-streamed on Fuse TV, and maybe because of this, Welch performed a set that was heavy on material from her most recent LP Ceremonials, breaking only to backtrack with Lungs singles "Dog Days Are Over," "Cosmic Love" and "Rabbit Heart."

Opening up with the new album's intro track "Only If for a Night," Florence got her vocals warmed up, easily hitting the rapturous notes on "What the Water Gave Me" and "All This and Heaven Too," with her energy level steadily rising with each song.

With the vibe finally established and the crowd engaged, Florence took a few extra moments to get her audience prepared for "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)," by encouraging men in the crowd to hoist dates on their shoulders, summer festival-style, despite Radio City being "quite a snazzy venue." It didn't take much prompting. Immediately, girls in the crowd began to pop up on shoulders, and Welch gleefully tallied the number of fans who were happy to oblige, before launching into the song.

"Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" was one of the highlights of the set, complete with an extended break allowing the audience to clap along to the percussion, while Welch skipped from one end of the stage to the next. Her sheer, billowing jumpsuit, which gave her the appearance of a fairy as she sauntered across the stage, was also mesmerizing when she stood still, arms spread, letting her vocals fill up the empty space in the auditorium on songs like "Spectrum."

Her disarming interactions with the crowd made it easy to swoon over her, and performing "Heartlines" after admitting that New York feels "more and more like home" didn't hurt either. "Dog Days Are Over," one of her biggest singles to date, was an obvious smash with the audience, and the encore found her delivering two final cuts from Ceremonials. "Never Let Me Go," came with a dedication to a fan's mother who had just passed away and "No Light, No Light" was her final number before disappearing for the night.

HTC One X Otterbox Commuter Hands-on

Otterbox HTC One X

While walking around visiting some of my favorite booths down here at CTIA I came across the Otterbox booth and decided to check and see if they happened to have anything new on display. Of course, front and center of the display was their new Commuter Series case for the HTC One X! Odds are that you have already seen an Otterbox case or a hundred before, so you know what they are all about, and this follows the same design principle. This two piece case has a silicon case underneath their hard shell, and the one I saw was in a rather stunning blue.

At first I was a bit fearful of the thought of adding a case to the device because it has such beautiful lines as it is, and I know folks who own the device wouldn't want to give that up. Otterbox has done an excellent job with this case in recreating the lines of the device through the case, and adding a lot of protection with little sacrifice. Hit the break with us to check out a couple more shots, and stay tuned for a full review!

Before you select a company that you can rely upon, consider evaluating against some foundational standards on a priority basis. You are recommended to ask them what the values and staff competencies are. Make sure that the level of training provided to nursing staff is of high standard and they are highly dedicated to providing extra care and towards value creation for their clients.

The truth is that the individuals are passionate and the driving force is not simply making money but also senior care. The staff should have qualities of trust, honor and respect in the highest regard and these values are infused throughout.

One common question is how they feel while serving their clients. In case if they seriously get great satisfaction in being included in their clients? lives then they will genuinely care. No doubt in the fact that caring is the essence of their job. Make sure you have checked out the staff behavior towards the seniors and of course, are they just being there with your beloved one or are they making them feel at ease at retirement living Ontario. Does your chosen home care facility also offers free pre-planning for the in home care services? Is their staff members equipped to give the best possible care while giving the feel of comfort at home and expertly matches each client with the right care provider? For elderly people that are no longer able to live at their present residential place, do they offer free tours of independent and assisted living facilities with vacancies? If they do then these are the services that make them uniquely qualified to provide their clients with the highest level of service at very reasonable cost.

802.11-2012 WiFi freshens up spec with 3.7GHz bands, mesh networking

802.11 abgnxywtfbbq

It's hard to believe that 802.11 WiFi has only had three major revisions since it was started up 15 years ago. The IEEE must be equally surprised, as it's introducing a new 802.11-2012 standard that unites 10 technologies from various amended WiFi versions under one big tent. Among the picks are new support for 3.65 and 3.7GHz bands, to avoid clashing with 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks, as well as better support for direct linking, faster cellular hand-offs, in-car networks, roaming and mesh networking. You can pay $5 to have a peek at the 2012 WiFi spec today, although we'd brace for a significant wait before smartphones and routers ship with the new 802.11 format -- we know how long it can take for a WiFi standard to become a practical reality.

Facebook to Marketers, It?s Time for a Click to Action

facebook_like_buton1You Like me...you really Like me. Wait. Maybe you don't really Like me after all. According to our Facebook engagement metrics, only 1% of you actually react when we post. So, to keep the numbers up, our team posts more often, asks questions, runs polls, curates content, introduces more and more contests, and asks for your help to submit your pics and videos as part of our "user-generated" content campaigns. We measure success by the Likes, comments, shares, the number of conversations, and reach. While the Likes are rising, we?re starting to recognize the pattern...I guess we never really defined why you should "Like" us beyond the initial click. We just took for granted that a Like equated to an opt-in. This general scenario is more common than you may think. That's all about to change however.

Samsung Galaxy S III gets a Canadian girlfriend as Bell, Rogers, Telus, Wind Mobile line up

Galaxy S III hands-on

If you live north of the 49th parallel, you're no doubt frustrated that Samsung teased a summer launch for the Galaxy S III in North America but made no initial mention of its Canadian plans. Don't fret, as virtually every Canadian carrier and its mother has now pledged to carry the giant Android 4.0 smartphone while you're on your summer vacation -- the first carrier commitments in North America that we've seen. Bell, Rogers, Telus, Virgin Mobile and Wind Mobile have all stepped up as national providers, while regional carriers such as SaskTel and Videotron have also signed on. The Galaxy S III is a special milestone for Virgin, as it's the first 4G LTE phone on the Bell-run budget network. We're still waiting for Mobilicity and other cellular services to hop on the Galaxy S III bandwagon, and details like pricing and exact ship dates are still elusive, but odds are that Canucks will have a wide choice of carriers when the 4.8-inch flagship hits stores.

Ron Paul Wins Maine Caucuses at Party Convention

Ron Paul supporters took control of the Maine Republican Convention and elected a majority slate supporting him to the GOP national convention.

The results gave the Texas congressman a late state victory.

In votes leading to the close of the two-day Maine GOP convention, Paul supporters were elected to 21 of 24 delegate spots from the state to the Republican national convention in Tampa, Fla., giving him a demonstrative win in the state.

Paul, the last challenger to Mitt Romney to remain in the contest, finished a close second behind Romney in Maine's GOP caucuses in February.

Those results were nonbinding, however, and not everyone had a chance to cast a ballot before the results were announced, as a snowstorm forced the cancellation of some caucuses, including one in a Paul stronghold.

Romney won the February election with 39 percent of the vote to Paul's 36 percent. Rick Santorum's 18 percent and Newt Gingrich's 6 percent.

Nevertheless, the caucuses merely selected the delegates to the state's party convention, and at that event, 21 of 24 voted to nominate Paul.

Romney's aides say they don't view Paul as a threat to winning the nomination, but are mindful not to do or say anything to anger his supporters.

"I think he's being very careful because he knows how important the Ron Paul voters are - they obviously represent a very different dynamic," said Mike Dennehy, a former top aide to Republican John McCain's 2008 campaign.

"They are the most passionate and the most frustrated of any voters heading to the polls. And many of them are actually independents."

In any case, the weekend's turn of events would indicate the GOP has not yet united behind the man many call the presumptive nominee, and there are indications the infighting may last through the national convention this summer.

If nothing else, it's a testament to the staying power of the movement started by Paul and his supporters, who are peerless in their devotion.
